The IRTG intends to place the selected PhD/graduate student into an environment that relies on both, research and education. It follows the scholarly principle of intensive supervision and at the same time, independent thinking, creative approaches to problem solving and a highly critical but constructive/stimulatory work environment is encouraged. In addition, the training program includes the management of research projects, the critical assessment of scientific proposals, international aspects of research and education and all necessary skills to communicate scientific data to the research community and the general public. Completion of the program provides a basis for a multitude of career developments including academia, the private sector and industrial settings.d
